Welcome to Alamanda Bouviers
We are hobby breeders of Bouvier des Flandres located in Gasparillo, Trinidad & Tobago. All our dogs and puppies are registered with the T&TKC (Trinidad & Tobago Kennel Club) and the Independent Kennel Club.
We are committed to promoting and developing the Bouvier des Flandres breed as a companion pet and guardian for persons with active lifestyles. In so doing we hope to influence those with whom we come into contact to improve the standard of care they provide for their dogs, no matter which breed.
What is a hobby breeder?
Hobby Breeders are dedicated to the preservation of a particular breed. We do not mass-produce animals! We do not breed our females at every estrus cycle. We rarely make any profit from breeding a litter or puppies. The Bouvier des Flandres is not considered fully grown until the age of 2 or 3 years old. Hence we do not breed our females until they are over 2 1/2yrs of age.

WORKING DOGS
This farm dog was bred to herd cattle so that means they're smart and need a job to do! A job that requires them to focus. I found that going for walks Emma and Finlay was particularly difficult; a lot of pulling and tugging. But when I put them on a joint lead (meant for two dogs) they started to run in sync. It was beautiful! We would go for runs in the forest nearby. There was less pulling and tugging. We worked as a team. They listened more when we ran while they were in front of me than when we walked and I tried to force them to stay at the side of me! So I realized they were born to cart!

Carting
So we started out pulling a mini-wagon my husband made. Then after several session we added one brick, then 2. Note: Carting should not be started until the dog is 3 years old. We are focusing on commands like, sit, stay, walk (slower), ya (go), hup hup (faster), haw (turn left), gee (turn right). Once we get those right we'll be ready to graduate to the sulky!!!
